{Economic: Al Furat News} The General Retirement Authority indicated controls and instructions for increasing the salaries of retirees after submitting communications to the Prime Ministry in this regard during the past period.
Last month witnessed the organization of a demonstration by retirees to demand an increase in their salaries, which no longer meet the requirements of their living due to the difficult economic conditions, calling on the concerned authorities to do justice to them due to what they have provided to the country throughout their service in the state.
The director of media for the authority, Alaa Muhammad, said in a press statement, "The increase in the salaries of retirees must be accompanied by a law enacted in the House of Representatives," noting that "the authority is an executive body that works according to the instructions and controls received from the concerned authorities, and it has no authority related to this matter."
He pointed out that "the commission addressed the higher authorities, such as the prime minister's office, to convey the voice of retirees and their demands related to increasing their salaries and enacting relevant laws, but so far it has not received any notice or instructions in this regard."
The Pensioners Syndicate appealed to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to consider the requests of retirees sent by the head of the National Retirement Authority, expressing their hope for a speedy response and approval according to Article 36 of the Unified Retirement Law.
Muhammad confirmed that "the authority worked during the past period to complete the procedures for those who were referred to retirement after a decision was made to reduce the retirement age, as thousands of pension identities were issued and their salaries were disbursed, with the exception of the end-of-service gratuity that is launched in the form of payments due to the large numbers of retirees." .
During the year 2019, the Council of Ministers approved a draft amendment to the Unified Retirement Law No. (9) of 2014 as part of the reform package that it launched to respond to the demands of the demonstrators, to include: referring the employee to retirement upon reaching the age of (60) years and canceling all exceptions, as well as referring the service employee The university is entitled to retire upon completing the age of (63) years, and it is permissible to extend the rare specializations and those whose services are urgently needed upon the recommendation of the University Council and the approval of the competent minister, in addition to reducing the retirement age for employees wishing to be referred to retirement and receiving their pension salaries at the age of (45) years instead of (50). years if he has a job service of not less than (15) years.
And the director of media pointed out that "the salaries of civilian and military retirees have been paid since the beginning of this year on time without delay, and there is a keenness on the part of the Ministry of Finance to allocate them according to the specified dates for disbursement."
