{Economic: Al Furat News} The Prime Minister’s Adviser for Construction and Services, Sabah Abdul Latif, announced that the government intends to distribute half a million residential plots of land to citizens, pointing to the start of activating an electronic registration portal to apply for plots of land during the next two weeks with the adoption of a points system in the differentiation between applicants .
Sabah Abdul-Latif said in a press statement, "The initiative to distribute residential land to citizens includes all parts of Iraq, except for the governorates of the Kurdistan Region, and there will be an electronic portal that all Iraqis will be able to enter and register for the opportunity to obtain residential land," meaning that all categories of the Iraqi people who are not She has a residence. You can register for a residential plot of land through this electronic portal, and upon application, it depends on the points system.”
On the approved mechanism to determine the beneficiaries, he explained that "the portal records the social status of the person (married / single / widowed - widow), economic status (included in the Social Welfare Law), as well as the status of martyrs. All martyrs have the right to apply, whether the martyrs of wars, terrorism or the October demonstrations. .
He added, "Through the points, a comparison is made between the applicants, which means that all categories of the Iraqi people can apply for the opportunity to obtain residential land, but there is priority for widows and families of martyrs and those covered by social care by virtue of need."
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, announced yesterday a plan to distribute half a million plots of land to the families of the martyrs, the poor, the security services, the Popular Mobilization, the Counter-Terrorism Service, and journalists, adding: “I will personally follow the team responsible for distributing land and the team responsible for designing the website, and it will be a different experience. About the rest of the experiences, and we will announce their details in all transparency.” He continued, “I do not have an electoral campaign to distribute papers without plots of land.”
The first phase of the initiative includes the distribution of more than 330,000 housing units, so that the rest of the plots will be distributed in succession until the total number of more than 500,000 plots is reached. The Prime Minister's advisor indicated that "the start of work on the electronic portal will be announced within two weeks."
He stressed that studies and United Nations reports indicate that Iraq needs 3.5 million housing units, and by calculating the average family member in Iraq at approximately 6 people, "more than half of the Iraqi people need housing."
According to Sabah Abdul Latif, the initiative will not stop at the distribution of land; Rather, the Ministry of Housing and Construction will present several models of residential house designs to citizens to choose the design in proportion to the number of family members and their capabilities, "that is, we will help the citizen to obtain a design for the housing unit that is built on the land, taking into account other considerations such as the economic consideration in terms of energy uses as well as cost".
On June 8, the Council of Ministers confirmed that the government is currently working to provide loans from banks to help build housing units that are subject to laws, urban plans and infrastructure plans, to prevent any urban distortion in new residential complexes.
And the Prime Minister’s advisor went on to say that “after the citizen obtains the land and the appropriate design, the government will facilitate obtaining a financial loan through which he can build the housing unit, and several days ago, the Central Bank increased the allocations for housing loans to two trillion Iraqi dinars, and we know that government banks provide Such loans through the Real Estate Bank and the National Housing Fund.
On the extent of the initiative’s success in solving the housing crisis, Abdul Latif explained: “Of course, this initiative will not fill all the needs, but it will reduce this burden, and there are other projects implemented through the Ministry of Housing and Construction and investment projects that meet the needs of some segments of society, so the residential land distribution initiative It will not solve the problem completely, but it will reduce its size."
He also unveiled a "giant" project for the reconstruction of Sadr City, "which will be implemented through the Chinese-Iraqi agreement to build a new city that includes 90,000 housing units, and this is part of attempts to provide housing for citizens as an acquired right."
