    Earth News/ The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons praised, today, Friday, Iraq's role and positive stances during the organization's periodic meetings.
    A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by Earth News, stated that "the Chargé d'Affairs of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Ali Hilal, with Fernando Arias Gonzalez, Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, in his office at the organization’s headquarters in The Hague, on Friday morning, March 25, 2022. The meeting was also attended by Odette Milono, Deputy Director-General of the Organization.
    At the beginning of the meeting, the Chargé d’Affairs reviewed the distinguished relations between Iraq and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, highlighting Iraq’s efforts to maintain its strong presence within the organization and from this point of view Iraq’s work to restore its membership in the Executive Council after it expired in May / 2020, as Iraq got Renewing the membership of the Council for the period 2022-2024, in addition to Iraq’s continued presence as Vice-President of the Conference of the States Parties for the third time in a row since 2019.”
    For his part, the Director-General of the organization valued Iraq's support and positive attitudes during the organization's periodic meetings. He also reviewed a number of topics, including the organization's efforts to confront the threat of the use of chemical weapons, and to promote the peaceful use of chemistry, in addition to the organization's project to establish a new center for chemistry and technology in the Netherlands.
    At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chargé d’Affairs expressed his “thanks to the Director-General of the organization for achieving this meeting,” stressing Iraq’s full support to “the organization in order to achieve its desired goal, which is to reach a world free of chemical weapons.”
