Including Iraq.. An expert identifies countries that may witness a "food disaster" due to the Ukrainian crisis
Shafaq News/ The World Food Program expert, "Eugenio Dacrema" said today, Monday, that the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis may cause a "food disaster" for a number of countries in North Africa, as well as Iraq, Sudan and Yemen.
"What is happening can be called a 'food disaster'," Dacrema said. Countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, African countries and Asian countries, will pay its consequences.
He noted that the increase in grain prices was caused by increased global demand against the background of reduced supply due to lower yields and lower Russian exports.
He stressed that the increase in fertilizer prices will reduce their use and, as a result, a decrease in the yield, which will lead to "a decrease in supply in the coming months."
He added, "All this will primarily affect the most vulnerable countries, where the situation will worsen. They are Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Yemen," stressing that "if the conflict continues, food problems will soon appear in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia."
