An Iraqi governorate expects wheat prices to rise by 40% and threatens to deter "price raisers"
Shafaq News/ An agricultural official in Salah al-Din suggested today, Sunday, that wheat prices will increase by 40% due to the increase in global prices and the reduction of winter agricultural plans, while revealing deterrent measures against those he called "saboteurs of the national economy."
The head of the Federation of Farmers' Associations in the province, Karim Kurdi Al-Dulaimi, told Shafaq News Agency; "We expect the price of wheat in the governorate to rise by 40% due to the increase in its prices in international markets, and the reduction of winter agricultural plans in half due to the scarcity of water in the governorates."
Al-Dulaimi suggested, "the rise in the price of wheat to 900,000 dinars per ton, according to what was confirmed by the Iraqi government in light of the global crisis in the exporting markets and the recent decision of the Council of Ministers to raise wheat prices to more than 30% from previous seasons."
Al-Dulaimi revealed "deterrent legal measures against people and entities that buy wheat from farmers at prices higher than the price of the Ministry of Trade, which raises more than question marks about the existence of a sabotage scheme targeting the national economy."
He warned farmers against dealing with merchants or parties that pay prices outside the specified ceiling of the Ministry of Trade, and the necessity of reporting on those parties or persons, in coordination with the security and intelligence services.
