Parliament: Iraq spends approximately 450 million dollars on imported gasoline per month
Shafaq News/ Soran Omar, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, announced that Iraq needs 31 million liters of gasoline per day for 15 governorates, and buys 15 million liters per day from abroad at a price of 2,100 dinars per liter.
Soran Omar said, in a post on his Facebook page, that "Iraq needs 31 million liters of gasoline per day for 15 governorates, and local refineries (including the two refineries in the Kurdistan Region) produce 16 million liters per day and it is sold at 450 dinars per liter." He added that "Iraq buys 15 million liters of improved gasoline per day at a price of 2,100 dinars per liter, and sells it to citizens at 650 dinars per liter, which means that, excluding gasoline from local refineries, Iraq allocates about 450 million dollars per month to purchase imported gasoline."
Omar explained that "the Iraqi government did not allow traders to manipulate and bring toxic substances in the name of gasoline, which led to controlling the price and quality of gasoline."
He added that the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq sells gasoline at 800 dinars per liter, while the price of commercial gasoline remained high at 1000 dinars per liter.
On Friday, the Future Iraq Foundation, which is concerned with economic affairs, said that Iraq bought more than 1.1 million tons of gasoline during the period from 1-1-2022 to 31-3-2022, an increase of 34% compared to the same period of the year. Past.
In a report published today, the Foundation said that the cost of one liter purchased from the Iraqi government during the first three months of the current year is 1,315 Iraqi dinars per liter, while the cost of one liter purchased during the past year was 930 Iraqi dinars per liter.
According to the Foundation, Iraq's loss from selling gasoline during the first three months of the current year amounted to 618 million dollars, while Iraq's loss from selling gasoline during all of 2021 amounted to 793 million dollars.
The report pointed out that with the continued rise in oil prices, and the increasing demand for gasoline, it is expected that Iraq's loss until the end of this year will reach 2.9 billion US dollars.
In turn, the head of the organization, Manar Al-Obaidi, stressed that it is necessary to work to accelerate the activation of the Karbala refinery, which will fill a large part of Iraq's need for improved and regular gasoline and will reduce the amount of total loss of gasoline.
