, a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Ahmed Taha Al-Rubaie, called on Thursday for the government to reveal the details of the disappearance of $800 million in the Ministry of Finance.
Al-Rubaie said in a statement that Mawazine News received a copy of it: “During the past few days, we have followed the movements of the Minister of Finance and Agency, during which he dismissed the Director General of the General Tax Authority and a number of his assistants and managers against the background of what official documents described as not controlling huge sums of money estimated at “800” One million dollars, as revealed by sources inside the ministry to some media outlets, and the ministry did not come out with a denial or confirmation of the issue despite the seriousness of this disaster.
” It is one of the biggest embezzlement and corruption operations inside the country."
He wondered about "the reasons for exempting the Director General of Taxes and some officials in the authority without referring them to the judiciary, which indicates the possibility of influential parties standing behind those responsible for this apparent theft."
He called on the competent regulatory authorities, such as the Integrity Commission, the Office of Financial Supervision and the Public Prosecution, to "take all means to track people's money, return the stolen money, and open an urgent investigation into the causes of this financial disaster."
