An American diplomat urges the Sudanese government to prevent Iran from meddling in Iraq's affairs
Shafaq News/ The Afghan-American diplomat and foreign policy expert, Zalmay Khalil, urged, on Wednesday, the federal government headed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani to work to preserve Iraq's sovereignty and prevent Iran from interfering in the country's affairs.
Khalil said in a speech during his participation in the Forum for Peace and Security in the Middle East in its third edition, held at the American University in Dohuk, that "Iraq is a very important country for America, and after 2003 the United States worked on successive governments in Iraq."
He added, "A new government has been formed, and there are different political parties participating in it. Here, a question arises: Can the Prime Minister implement his government program and the political agreement that resulted from this formation?"
And the American diplomat added, "The Iraqi people have many demands, and calls for the provision of services," stressing that "the implementation of the constitution is an important point, and there must be a will to preserve Iraq's sovereignty, and this responsibility lies with the Sudanese government."
Khalil urged the current federal government to "prevent Iran from interfering in Iraq's affairs."
On the Kurdistan Region, Khalil said that America has a partnership with the region as part of federal Iraq, and we have close cooperation at the level of confronting terrorism.
He continued by saying, "There is a set of rights for the Kurdistan Region that are established in the Iraqi constitution, including the oil and gas file," noting that "the Iraqis should deal with this file in a healthy way."
