    Economy News-Baghdad
Iraq succeeded in hosting the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup "Gulf 25", as it restored life to stadiums and sports facilities to its former era, and in the same vein weaved the tourism sector, achieving records in hosting tourists in the city of Basra, which hosts the tournament.
"Gulf 25" began with an opening ceremony that many described as "dazzling", after it included historical performances that reflected successive civilizations on the land of Mesopotamia, and other artistic shows that included advanced technologies such as "holograms".
The matter did not stop here, as the Iraqi authorities revealed that the number of Gulf visitors who flocked to Basra during the first two days of the tournament reached 34 thousand, noting that a number of them arrived in the city even before the start of the tournament.
Of course, the tournament had an impact on the tourism movement and the occupancy rate in the city's hotels.
The Director of Tourism in Basra, Hussein Al-Rubai, said that the tourist movement in the city and the percentage of full hotel occupancy have not been witnessed in Basra since 2003, as hotels recorded a record turnout of visitors and the rooms were completely filled before the start of the Gulf Cup, according to Sky News Arabia.
Al-Rubai considered the matter "a positive indicator that reflects the strong return of the tourism movement in Iraq, thanks to the interest of brothers in the Gulf states to attend the Gulf football event, as well as to pay visits to some other provinces."
He added that the strong return of the tourism movement after 20 years, and based on the Gulf championship, will have a positive impact on restoring the tourist status that the city of Basra used to live in, especially as it has many geographical characteristics that are distinguished by its location on the Shatt al-Arab and its proximity to the Gulf countries through land outlets, as well as For the diverse tourism product it offers to its visitors.
    Full hotel occupancy
A number of hotel officials in Basra confirmed that reservations are full before the Gulf championship begins, thanks to the great demand both for the participating teams and delegations, as well as for the fans who came from various Gulf countries, in addition to media representatives.
They said that the matter has reached the point that the opportunity to obtain a hotel room has become a difficult task during the past few days.
Those in charge of the hotels wished the continuation of the tourism movement in the city, and to benefit from the success of the great football event in hosting more events that would contribute to the continuation of the recovery in Iraq.
They also hoped to increase the number of hotels in Basra in order to be able to accommodate the demand from tourists in the future, and to ensure the provision of various comfort conditions for visitors.
Hotel prices in the city of Basra witnessed a skyrocketing rise during the "Gulf 25", due to the increase in demand.
The hotels in charge explained that the rise in prices is due to the equation of supply and demand, which recorded a doubling in prices.
