Director of Customs: advanced stages of amending the Authority's law

The General Authority of Customs revealed that it has achieved advanced steps in writing the new draft amendment to its law in line with developments in the sector, enhancing financial revenues and simplifying procedures.
The director of the authority, Shaker Al-Zubaidi, told Al-Sabah that the customs law represents one of the most important axes of the desired goals to combat smuggling, protect national security and enhance the financial revenues of the public budget.
He pointed out that advanced steps have been achieved in writing the new draft amendment to ensure the implementation of the government program in terms of simplifying customs procedures across borders and assisting the regulatory, health, agricultural and environmental authorities.
Al-Zubaidi referred to seeking cooperation and harnessing the expertise and capabilities of the World Customs Organization to ensure the development and reform of the country's customs system and upgrading it to the level of international standards.
He explained that the authority has completed the first phase of the customs (automation) system project in cooperation with the United Nations, while training continues for employees within the second phase and qualifying them for the third and operational phase on the use of computers and the application of the system according to the specified timings to ensure the increase and development of digital services and solutions, customs employees and departments. other border.
Al-Zubaidi added that the authority's recent celebration of World Customs Day comes as an affirmation of Iraq's respect for the goals of the World Customs Organization, and the continuation of efforts and activities in creating a business environment that enhances the role of international trade, and facilitates the entry of goods and travelers.
