Egypt ranked first in the list of the most populous Arab countries during the current year 2023, according to the United Nations World Population Census data.
The data said, "Egypt ranked first in the list of the most populous Arab countries during the current year, with a total of 112 million people, followed by Sudan with a population of 48 million, then Algeria with a population of 45.6 million."
According to the data, in Iraq it came in fourth place after Egypt, Sudan and Algeria, with a total of 45.5 million people. The population of Iraq reached 45.5, according to the world population census data of the international organization, a number that contradicts the official statistics of the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, which indicate that the country's population will reach 43 million by the end of this year.
The French National Institute for Demographic Studies issued a report entitled "World Population", which provides a comprehensive picture of the population situation around the world. The world population will reach nearly 8 billion in 2022, has increased eightfold over the past 200 years, and may reach 10 billion by the end of the 21st century.
The research is based on demographic indicators used in previous editions, including land area, estimated population in mid-2022, birth and death rates, infant mortality rate, total fertility rate, percentage of the population between the ages of 15 and 65, and life expectancy at birth for males and females.
According to the findings of the report, the seven countries inhabited with the highest population are China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria and Brazil, with a total population of 4.1 billion, or more than half of the world's estimated population of 8 billion.
On the Arab level, Egypt ranked first in terms of population until mid-2022, with nearly 111 million people, followed by Sudan and Algeria with 46.9 million and 44.9 million people, respectively. The report also included projections of the size of the population in countries until 2050, with estimates of the population in Egypt reaching 160 million, Sudan at 85 million, and Iraq ahead of Algeria in third place with a total of 75 million people in 2050.
Here is a look at the infographic below on the comparison of population density in the Arab region until the first half of 2022 and estimates for the year 2050:
