Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed today, Wednesday, that the government is working on crystallizing a new vision for the electricity sector, while pointing to the importance of implementing reform in the energy sector.
The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, of which Mawazine News received a copy, that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani received, today, members of the Electricity and Energy Committee in the House of Representatives," noting that "during the meeting, government plans were reviewed, which center around Service and investment projects approved for the development of the energy sector in Iraq.
The Prime Minister stressed "the importance of holding these meetings, which aim at integrating executive and parliamentary work, and reaching a common understanding of facing challenges in various sectors, especially the energy field, which is a gateway to the advancement of the economy, in all its aspects."
He pointed out that "the government is working on crystallizing a new vision for the electricity sector, which includes developing it and adopting combined cycles with high efficiency and productivity," explaining that "part of these projects have been implemented and work is underway on the rest, in addition to activating the principle of collection that has been idle for years, provided that it is In a measured and fair manner, away from the suspicions of corruption that accompanied him throughout the previous period.
And the Prime Minister stressed "the importance of strengthening the oversight role," noting that he "will personally follow up the reports of the Electricity and Energy Committee and its observations regarding contracts and the level of performance."
And he stressed "not complacency in confronting corruption and taking swift measures in its regard," pointing to "the importance of implementing reform in the energy sector, and choosing radical solutions to intractable problems, including the government's orientation towards investing in associated gas and stopping its waste, as well as addressing obstacles related to some of the concluded contracts that concern Solar energy and landscaping for these projects.
