Shafaq News/ The Turkish Statistics Authority announced, on Tuesday, that the Iraqis fell to the fourth rank among the people who buy real estate in Turkey during the month of April, and an expert enumerates the reasons.
In a report seen by Shafaq News agency, the authority said, "Home sales in Turkey to foreigners decreased by 60.3% in April compared to the same month of the previous year, and 2557 properties became Antalya ranked first with 1024 homes, and Istanbul came in second place with sales of 792 homes, Then Mersin with 186 houses.
She pointed out that "the Russians topped the rest of the countries in the most purchase of real estate in Turkey during April, with 817 homes, and the Iranians came in second place, with 377 homes, Ukraine third, with 136 homes, Iraq fourth, with 124 homes, and Kazakhstan fifth, with 89 homes."
Iraqis have topped the list of buying homes in Turkey since 2015, but their ranking fell to second place after Iran at the beginning of the year 2021, before falling to third place since April 2022 after Russian domination of Turkish real estate.
In an interview with Shafaq News agency, the economist, Muhammad al-Hassani, attributed the reasons for the Iraqis' decline in buying real estate in Turkey to the latter's adjustment of the value of the property that must be purchased to obtain citizenship.
And he indicated that "Turkey has raised the minimum value of real estate that must be purchased in order to obtain Turkish citizenship to 400 thousand dollars, after it was 250 thousand dollars previously, in addition to other new controls for granting residencies, which are now limited to the person who buys only without his family members." .
He added, "The other reason is the economic crisis afflicting the country, especially after the significant drop in the lira against the dollar."
