The Al-Faw Grand Port project has made great strides in the completion stages, as the road linking the city of Al-Faw and Umm Qasr in Basra Governorate is scheduled to be opened during the coming period, with the operation of Pier No. 1 at the end of this year.
Director of the Media Office at the Ministry of Transport, Maitham Al-Safi, told “Al-Sabah”: The road contains “space” layers with high specifications that were stacked in the form of a group of compressed layers, which makes it bear various weights, as through this road goods will be transported from Al-Faw port towards Turkey. Then Europe, indicating that the completion stages of this project have reached a higher rate than planned.
He added that the work of covering the “concrete” layer before asphalt had begun for the highway project linking the cities of Al-Faw and Umm Qasr in Basra Governorate, indicating that the road extends a distance of 62 km from the port of Al-Faw towards the submerged tunnel after that to the Safwan Road area and then the international highway. Which passes through all governorates.
Al-Safi stated that the current phase of the five berths project is witnessing accelerated completion rates, and it is hoped that full rates will be achieved by the end of this year. It is expected that the Ministry will operate berth number one within the five berths project at the end of the current year as a result of the significant increase in implementation and completion processes in the five port projects. .
