    Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin vowed to respond to attacks by Iranian-backed armed factions on US forces in the region, including in Iraq and Syria.
    Austin said during the US Senate session to request financial support: We will continue to protect American forces and American citizens in the region. Our employees have been subjected to repeated attacks in recent days by Iranian-backed factions, and these unacceptable Iranian-backed attacks against the forces must stop.
    He added: If Iranian-backed groups continue to attack American forces, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures in the region to protect our people, he said.
    He pointed out that they have also increased force protection measures throughout the region: We have deployed a high-altitude area defense battery, in addition to additional Patriot batteries, to provide more protection for our personnel.
    He continued: We are providing security assistance to Israel at the speed of war and providing air defense capabilities, precision-guided munitions, small diameter bombs, and other key equipment, including more interceptor missiles for the life-saving Iron Dome system.
