The Ministry of Migration and Displacement prevented candidates for the 2023 provincial council elections from carrying out any political activity or electoral promotion inside the camps for displaced people in the Kurdistan region. The ministry’s official spokesman, Ali Abbas Jahakir, told “Al-Sabah”: The ministry is following up on the reality of the camps for the displaced in the Kurdistan region, for the purpose of providing their needs in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government, stressing that candidates are prevented from carrying out any electoral promotion or political activity in the camps, noting that his ministry threatened To take legal action if it detects such activities. He pointed out that the Ministry coordinated with the Independent High Electoral Commission to update all data on those eligible to vote among the displaced families in the Kurdistan region, in order to preserve their electoral votes and ensure their participation in the electoral process.
