The official spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government, Peshwa Hormani, responded to the demand addressed to it by the leader of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, regarding the disbursement of salaries and entitlements to teaching staff in the region.
Hormani said in a statement, “The leader of the National Wisdom Movement sent a message to the Kurdistan Regional Government calling on it to pay teachers’ salaries,” adding: We completely agree with this message, but he realizes that it is not the Kurdistan government that does not pay salaries, but rather the federal government. Which stopped the salaries of teachers and all employees in Kurdistan in an unfair manner and is not willing to pay the salaries and the region’s share of the budget.
The wise speaker called for going to Baghdad and supporting an end to this injustice, stressing that the Kurdistan Regional Government fulfilled all its duties and adhered to the agreements, but we did not seek that from the opposite party.
He added that when revenues were under the authority of the Kurdistan Regional Government, it paid the salaries of all its employees, but after the region's revenue sources were dried up by Baghdad, employee problems emerged.
Hormani continued by saying: We hope that Mr. Al-Hakim, as he played the role of reconciliation in the past, will call on all Iraqi parties not to ignore the injustice being practiced against the employees of the Kurdistan Region.
