    The Ministry of Planning announced, on Monday, the details of a government meeting to unify customs policy at the border crossings with the Kurdistan region.

    The Media Office of the Ministry of Planning stated, in a statement received by Alsumaria News, that “Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim, chaired the meeting of the ministerial committee formed pursuant to Cabinet Resolution No. (23661) of 2023, which is responsible for reviewing procedures for unifying policy.” Customs duties at all border ports (land, sea, and airports), and proposing the necessary decisions to implement what is stated in the ministerial curriculum. The committee is also responsible for developing a comprehensive and unified vision for the implementation of customs policy, product protection laws, and special decisions in this regard, in addition to reviewing the mechanisms for implementing the Border Ports Authority Law No. 30 of 2016 and its amendments and proposing the necessary treatments to enable the Authority to perform its duties.”



    He added, "The committee includes in its membership the Ministers of Interior, Construction, Housing, Municipalities, Justice, Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the Chairman of the Border Ports Authority, the Head of the Legal Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Director-General of the General Authority of Customs and the Director-General of the General Authority for Taxes." In the Ministry of Finance.

    He continued: "While the meeting was attended by the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Ministers of Interior and Finance, and a number of advisors and general directors in the region."

    He added, "During the meeting, the reality of the border crossings was discussed and how to establish unified mechanisms to manage these crossings due to their economic and security importance. The meeting also discussed customs policy, and agreed to establish appropriate mechanisms to unify the policy in accordance with what was stipulated in the constitution, and by agreement between the two parties."

    The two parties expressed their readiness to continue joint work in order to address all problems surrounding the reality of border crossings, customs policy, and prior inspection of imported goods and merchandise.
