The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced today, Wednesday, the imminent launch of a major campaign against foreign workers in Baghdad and the governorates, while setting new conditions and mechanisms for bringing in foreign workers.
The Ministry's official spokesman, Najm Al-Aqabi, said, "Based on the directives of the Minister of Labor, the inspection committee will begin conducting visits to employers who violate the labor law as a result of their employing foreign workers without obtaining the required approvals."
He explained, "Campaigns in this regard will be launched in the coming days," calling on "employers who employ foreign workers who do not have a work permit to expedite the reform of their legal situation, either by deporting the workers or handing them over to the Directorate of Residence Affairs."
He stressed that "the campaigns will be broad and focused in the Baghdad regions and then will include all governorates," noting that "joint committees between the Ministries of Labor and the Interior will cover the projects and reduce the phenomenon of the presence of foreign workers in the projects."
He pointed out that “the number of those registered on the Muhan electronic platform during the past year amounted to 12,227 foreign workers in violation,” noting that “the number of those who were granted work permits was 6,532 workers, while the number of visitors reached 8,502 who visited the department and 3,725 who did not review it.”
He continued, "New conditions and mechanisms have been put in place to limit the leakage of foreign workers," noting that "the conditions included not bringing in any foreign worker unless he is skilled and has an experience certificate certified by his country."
