Imposing sanctions on Jordan... Iraqi representatives propose

Despite Jordan's denial of participating in the US strikes that targeted several armed factions in Iraq and Syria about two weeks ago, it appears that some Iraqi representatives have begun a move to impose sanctions on Amman.
Iraqi MP Hadi Al-Salami revealed that a proposed draft law had been submitted to the Presidency of Parliament imposing economic sanctions on Jordan against the backdrop of accusations that its forces participated in US raids on Iraq.
Canceling the privileges
He said in a special statement to the Arab World News Agency (AWP) that “based on the signatures of a group of members of Parliament and within their constitutional powers, the Presidency of Parliament was handed over a proposal for a law canceling the privileges granted in economic relations with Jordan,” which allows the sale of oil at reduced prices.
Al-Salami also mentioned that the proposal to cancel the agreement comes as a form of sanctions due to what he described as Jordan's participation in American raids against Iraqi security sites, as he claimed. He said that the proposed law also comes “to preserve public money and preserve full Iraqi sovereignty in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, and in order to prevent foreign interference in Iraqi affairs and targeting the national armed forces.”
Iraq and Jordan signed an agreement in February 2019 that guarantees customs exemptions between the two countries in the fields of air and land transport, energy, health, and the financial sector, and the sale of oil to Jordan at a price lower than the global market price by $16.
Jordanian denial:
This Iraqi parliamentary move came after an American official claimed, early this month (February 2023), that Jordan participated in American strikes against Iranian-backed targets in the region, without mentioning other details, according to what CNN reported at the time.
On the other hand, a Jordanian military source confirmed on February 3 that the Royal Jordanian Air Force did not participate in the raids carried out by the US Air Force on several targets inside Iraqi territory, stressing that “the Jordanian army respects Iraq’s sovereignty.”
It is noteworthy that the American retaliatory strikes were in response to the killing of 3 American soldiers following the targeting of a march launched by armed factions loyal to Iran on January 28, on Tower 22 on the Jordanian-Syrian border.
The US Central Military Command announced at the time that more than 40 American soldiers were injured, noting that about 350 soldiers from the US ground and air forces were deployed at that base, carrying out a number of basic support missions, including supporting the coalition forces against ISIS.
