    Economy News - Baghdad
The Ministry of Electricity announced, on Wednesday, the entry into force of the electronic collection project, while stressing the importance of citizens’ commitment to paying the collection through electronic payment.
The head of the ministerial committee to supervise the electronic payment and smart transformation project in the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Mortada, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “our ministry began the electronic payment project nearly two and a half years ago, but there was a slight delay.” At work, and now the project has entered into implementation,” stressing that “the project will solve the problems of citizens, the ministry, and the government in general, including problems related to collecting tax amounts, which constitute the basic imports of the Ministry of Electricity.”
Murtada stated, “Electronic collection is the most important basis for controlling imports in the ministry, and it will also restore the citizen’s confidence in the Iraqi state institution, in terms of paying all his due fees and collections resulting from his consumption of electrical energy, and it will save him the trouble of going to the ministry’s departments to pay the collection amounts.” Directly, in addition to ending many other problems by adopting electronic collection.”
He stressed the importance of "citizens' commitment to paying taxes through electronic payment, and avoiding all fears about increasing tax rates," stressing that these are "fears that have nothing to do with reality."
He added, "The shift to electronic payment is a step similar to paying dues for gasoline and other fuels, and it is a modern system to turn the page on the old systems that Iraqi state institutions have continued for more than 60 years."
The Ministry of Electricity announced earlier the electronic payment and collection service for electricity bills, stressing that the smart transformation project will ensure 24-hour supply of energy.
