A week after officially assuming its duties, the local government in Wasit Governorate began implementing its program, which aims to improve the service situation, strengthen the security aspect, and extend security throughout the governorate.
The government began its new journey by making changes in the service departments, namely the municipality, roads and bridges, where some directors were replaced and others rotated. In return, the Governor of Wasit stressed the importance of structuring the Kut Municipality Directorate due to the presence of a glut of employees, and a lack of performance for many of them.
While Al-Mayahi pledged, in an interview followed by Al-Mada, to transfer some specializations, especially administrative and educational, to other departments with the grade and financial allocation, especially education, which urgently needs some specializations.
On the security level, Al-Mayahi pledged to review security plans and procedures and to harness all efforts to support the Wasit Police Command and the rest of the security services in the governorate, leading to strengthening security and enforcing the rule of law, and in order not to exploit citizens by merchants and weak-minded people. He revealed the formation of twenty committees to monitor markets and control... Prices and movement of goods and merchandise, especially with the advent of the month of Ramadan.
Al-Mayahi said during a joint press conference with the president and members of the governorate council and leaders of the security services, “The local government, both its legislative and executive parts, is one body, one goal, and one project in order to develop and build the governorate, and move it to the next level of urban, service, and economic renaissance.”
Stressing, “The new phase is the phase of one harmonious team between the legislative and executive authorities without creating disagreements or intersections or creating personal problems or crises that would affect our service program.”
He added, "We have contributed to consolidating the foundations of stability and preserving the social fabric in light of the difficult circumstances that the governorate went through in the previous stage, and we will work to strengthen this with effective steps with all political partners, whether in the governorate council or members of parliament from our governorate. We are a services government, not a crisis government." Or political gains and conflicts.”
He stressed his endeavor to restore the citizen’s confidence in the state’s constitutional institutions through coordinated and joint work, proceed with the governorate’s reconstruction plan, and implement projects in it according to what is accepted and approved by the Council, calling on all the people of Wasit to “contribute to monitoring the performance of the legislative and executive authorities in order to correct the course.” .
Only hours have passed since the session of the Wasit Governorate Council at the beginning of this February, in which the council’s president, his deputy, the governor, and the first deputy were elected, in the presence of nine members out of 15, after two members from the coordination framework (Nebni) joined the Wasit Ajmal list. Until the boycott blocs began to challenge it and question its legitimacy, with a torrent of accusations launched against the two members who joined the governor’s list.
Previous disputes that extended from Kut to Baghdad, and were accompanied by mutual accusations. Between threatening to resort to the street to impose the electoral entitlement equation, and going to the courts to challenge the legitimacy of the session, the situation of the local government finally stabilized, and it was met with broad support from the Wasti street, and at the forefront of the supporters were the sheikhs. The notables and leaders of the governorate, members of trade unions and professional federations, civil society organizations and most other activities in the Wasti community expressed their full support for the new government in order to proceed with the work and reconstruction projects spread throughout the governorate, which greatly changed the service reality and its keenness to secure housing for the Wasiti citizen after continuing to distribute Residential plots, in addition to its full support for culture, arts, literature, and care for creative and distinguished people.
For his part, the head of the Wasit Council, Ali Hassan Suleiman Ali, stressed that “the new local government, both its legislative and executive parts, will be one hand in order to effectively contribute to providing services to the people of the governorate who look to their representatives, by making every effort to build, rebuild and prosper Wasit.”
He added, “Wasit deserves everyone to stand united, away from internal political differences and conflicts, in order to move forward with work, spread safety and stability, and achieve the aspirations of the Wasit citizen. There is no way to do this except to bridge the gap of differences and look at the achievements achieved on the ground.”
He stressed, “The Council will strongly support the executive authority and at the same time monitor the performance stages and steps of all government institutions in the governorate, particularly the service departments and security agencies, which will be given appropriate allocations to develop their performance and enhance their technical capabilities.”
It is noteworthy that the Wasit Council during the current session consists of 14 members, including ten men and four women, in addition to a member from the Faili Kurdish quota, bringing the total number of members to 15 members. The members of the Council were distributed by seven from the share of the Wasit Ajmal list for the governor and two members for each state of law. We build, The administration of the state, one of which goes to the Wasit Tent Alliance, in addition to the representative of Kuta, the Faili Kurds.
