[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Ministry of Transport announced, today, Monday, that remarkable progress has been achieved in preparing preliminary designs for the rail and land development road tracks by the Italian consulting company Beg, confirming the continuation of work on soil investigation by the Turkish company.
A statement from the Ministry's media office stated, "The initial designs being worked on by the Italian consulting company Beg exceeded 66% for the railway line, and more than 52% for the land line."
The statement added, "The soil investigation work carried out by a Turkish company has reached 80%, after the topographic surveys covered 1,200 km."
He stressed: "The local governments in the governorates are dealing positively and effectively with the requirements of the project, and removing conflicts in the two paths of the road, the most prominent of which are related to minefields and oil pipelines."
He noted that the ministry is entering into understandings with the Kurdistan Regional Government to fulfill the requirements of the project, as the road cuts a distance of 4.5 km within the territory of the region, noting: “The Turkish side represents a strategic partner in the development road project, along with the ten countries that participated in the first conference.” For the project, which was held in Baghdad at the end of May 2023.
He explained, "The project will be divided into 15 parts, in order to make way for reputable international companies to benefit and compete for investment opportunities within the project, in a way that primarily serves the interest of Iraq and Iraqis."
The statement continued: “The meetings between the Iraqi and Turkish sides continue through mutual visits of technical delegations, and the visit of the Turkish delegation to the city of Basra and the large port of Al-Faw left a positive impression on the delegation, and it expressed its support for the ministry’s projects.
