Military expert, retired Brigadier General Adnan Al-Kinani, revealed today, Monday (March 25, 2024), the reason for Iraq’s failure to diversify sources of weapons and military equipment over the past years.
Al-Kinani said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Iraq's failure to diversify its sources of weapons is due to American control over the Iraqi security and military file over the past years, and there was an American veto to prevent Iraq from concluding any important and large arms deals with different countries."
He stated, “The American side wants to remain in control of the armament file in Iraq so that this can be a pressure card on the Iraqi side, and there is no doubt that it is being used during the current negotiations between Baghdad and Washington regarding the removal of American forces, and for this reason we see Iraqi armament as undeveloped despite the spending of millions of dollars on it.” ".
The military expert added, "America will continue to work to prevent Iraq from possessing advanced air defense systems, so that the Iraqi skies remain under its control and it can penetrate them with ease without any deterrent. Therefore, there is a necessity to liberate the armament file from American control, and to diversify the sources of armament, as this matter develops armament." It is forbidden for there to be any pressure card on Iraq from any country, as armament cannot be limited to a specific country, whether America or others.”
