[size=45]The Ministry of Transport announced that it will launch electronic ticket reservations via smartphones for passengers on board trains during the second half of this year, indicating that it will purchase 50 modern locomotives from international manufacturers.[/size]
[size=45]The Ministry’s Media Director, Maytham Al-Safi, said in a statement to the official newspaper that the electronic ticket reservation application for trains via smart phones will be launched during the second half of 2024, noting that the Ministry’s Information Technology Department is close to completing the reservation mechanism and the other for paying tickets, in implementation of the government program for that.[/size]
[size=45]He pointed out that his ministry has developed a plan to operate and return all locomotives to service that were previously operating by maintaining them within a specific timetable, revealing in the same context that contracts were made with specialized international companies to purchase 50 modern locomotives in addition to those operating in the country in a way that is compatible with the road project. Development in which (FAO - Europe) exceeded the percentage of initial railway line designs, by 66 percent, and topographic surveys covered 1,200 kilometers.[/size]
[size=45]Al-Safi stated that the procedures adopted by his ministry are currently working to activate all train stations, remove violations on railway lines, and adopt the latest technologies for determining routes, lighting and early warning to prevent accidents from occurring on their tracks.[/size]
