    Japanese stocks closed lower in volatile trading on Thursday after three consecutive days gains as weak Chinese economic data outstripped gains made early in the session.
    Morale deteriorated in the afternoon after North Korea's official news agency reported a threat to use nuclear weapons to "flood" Japan and turn the United States into "ashes and darkness" in support of a UN Security Council resolution and sanctions for its latest nuclear test.
    The Nikkei <.N225> was 0.3 percent lower at 1,807.44. The broader Topix index <.TOPX> was also down 0.3 percent at 1,632.13 points. Topix jumped 0.3 percent to 1,642.56 points, the highest level since August 2015.
    Non-ferrous metals were the worst performers on Thursday, with Mitsui mining and smelting down 5.4 percent, while Toho Zinc fell 5.3 percent. Ending / 25
