Da'im's Da'eef agency claimed responsibility for the shooting in Las Vegas, which killed less than 50 people and wounded more than 400, but US officials said there was no evidence so far linking the gunman to any international militant group.
The agency quoted the depth of a security source as saying that the bomber "converted to Islam several months ago."
US officials said security agencies were investigating a declaration calling for responsibility for the incident.
"The attacker of Las Vegas is a soldier of the Islamic state and carried out the operation in response to appeals targeting the coalition countries," Deep said, referring to the US-led coalition to fight the Islamic state in the Middle East.
The gunman, who was living in a retirement home in Mesquite, Nevada and armed with more than a dozen guns, opened fire at a rural music festival in Las Vegas last night from a window on the 32nd floor, authorities said.
Police said the man was named Stephen Padock and that he killed himself before entering the hotel room from which he was shot.
Two senior administration officials told Reuters that Paduk's name was not on any of the terrorist suspects' lists and that there was no evidence linking him to any international militant group.
One official said there was reason to believe that Paduc had a history of psychological problems. C
