[ltr]Military scientist Daniel Elsberg warned that the world is closer to the prospect of a nuclear disaster that could destroy the entire earth than what is believed to be "doomsday."[/ltr]
[ltr]Ellsberg was one of the contributors to the United States' nuclear strategy in the 1960s during the Cold War, when the US-Soviet conflict was to get the most powerful arsenal.[/ltr]
[ltr]In a new book, "The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Plan," the strategic expert said that a nuclear war would be far more dangerous than any natural or human disaster the Earth has known throughout its history, including the Chernobyl disaster.[/ltr]
[ltr]Elberg, 86, believes that nuclear bombs may be launched "after a wrong warning, a terrorist act, an unauthorized person, or a reckless escalation decision that could kill millions of people and possibly end life on the ground. That the Cold War ended more than 30 years ago. "[/ltr]
[ltr]"In the event of a nuclear war between the United States and another country, that would kill half a billion people within a few days," he warned.[/ltr]
