Sweden donates $ 12 million to support Iraq
The Swedish government announced on Thursday that it had donated an additional 100 million Swedish crowns ($ 12 million) to the United Nations reconstruction program for liberated areas in Iraq.
"There has been tremendous progress in the liberated areas of Iraq and it is wonderful to see that people choose to return to their areas and start rebuilding their lives," UNDP Representative Les Gray told the UN website.
"Iraq remains a priority in the area of Swedish cooperation for development and the United Nations funding facility is a crucial element in sustaining the civilian effort after liberating the regions from the terrorist organization," said Swedish Ambassador to Iraq Puntos Melander.
Sweden's total contribution to the United Nations Iraq Program has reached about $ 26 million since 2015.
