    Follow-Up

The US Senate voted against a draft resolution to stop US support for the Saudi military campaign in Yemen.

It coincided with a meeting at the White House of US President Donald Trump with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who began a three-week visit to the United States.

The Senate rejected the bill by 55 to 44.

The bill's proponents first tried to use a clause in the 1973 War Powers Act authorizing any senator to put forward a draft resolution on withdrawing US troops from any conflict that Congress did not have permission to participate in.

Trump and Ben Salman discussed in their talks a deal reached last year on Saudi investments with the United States worth 200 billion dollars, including the purchase of large military equipment from the United States.
