[ltr]WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is considering a collective military response to a suspected poisonous gas attack in Syria, while experts have listed several key facilities as potential targets, US officials said on Tuesday.[/ltr]
[ltr]US officials, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, did not disclose any plans, but acknowledged that the military options were under development, and the White House, the Pentagon and the Pentagon refused to comment on specific options or whether military action was likely .[/ltr]
[ltr]Experts on the Syrian war, France and possibly Britain and its allies in the Middle East, have been drawn as potential partners in any US military operation, which will aim to prevent future use of chemical weapons in the civil war in Syria.[/ltr]
[ltr]Experts expected retaliation strikes, if any, to focus on facilities linked to previous reports of chemical weapons attacks in Syria.[/ltr]
[ltr]They also referred to possible strikes on bases including the air conscience base, in which the Syrian Mi-8 helicopters, which were connected by social media to the strike in Douma, were located.[/ltr]
[ltr]A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he was not aware of any decision to retaliate, but said any plans for a possible attack might focus on targets linked to the Syrian chemical weapons program, while he would try to avoid anything that could lead to toxic gas Urban areas.[/ltr]
[ltr]A more powerful strike may have targeted the Hameimim air base in northwestern Syria, which the White House said in a statement on March 4 that it was a launching pad for the bombing operations carried out by Russian military aircraft in Damascus and the eastern Ghouta.[/ltr]
