US police end hostage taking in Los Angeles
Police in Los Angeles arrested a man who was taken hostage and stored in a chain store on Saturday, ending a three-hour standoff that killed a woman in the store, US authorities said Sunday.
A video clip from NBC Los Angeles police showed the man in front of the store after the confrontation. Police have not yet identified the man, while the Los Angeles Police Department said on Twitter that "the suspect was detained without incident."
The Los Angeles Times reported that the person had shot at the policemen who were chasing him before entering the store as shoppers ran for cover after shots rang out inside the store. Police said a woman was shot dead inside the store but did not reveal her identity yet. .
Police had been hunting the man after he was suspected of shooting his grandmother and another woman in a separate area of the city. His car crashed outside the shop where he exchanged fire with the police. Mayor Eric Garsity told a news conference the man was shot in the arm, Reuters said. Finished
