The Jordanian Baath Socialist Party held a "big" celebration on Friday to glorify former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on the 13th anniversary of his execution.

The celebration was held at the Syndicate of Professional Syndicates in Karak, southern Jordan.

This celebration is the final of the preparatory committee for the commemoration of Saddam's execution, which began on 20/2018 and ends on Friday 11/1/2019.

The celebration was attended by loyalists of the Jordanian Baath party and opposition parties as well as representatives of the Jordanian parliament.

It is noteworthy that Jordan witnessed three celebrations held by the Preparatory Committee to glorify the anniversary in three provinces, namely Amman, the capital, and the city of Karab and Karak.

Parliamentarians and officials in the Iraqi parliament and government have strongly objected to the celebrations held in Jordan to commemorate Saddam Hussein's execution. Some of them called for severing relations between Baghdad and Amman in protest against those activities they described as provocative.

The Jordanian MP Khalid Ramadan responded to the Iraqi objections by saying that "the right of all Jordanian institutions to establish events within the principle of freedom guaranteed by the Jordanian Constitution."

He explained that "no parliament has the right to impose on Jordan what is contrary to its internal charters guaranteed by the constitution, especially freedom of expression."
