The Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday that his country will open four consulates in the following Iraqi provinces: Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk and Najaf.

This came during a press conference held today at the headquarters of the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara.

"Turkey is making efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq," Aksui said, adding that his country had earmarked five billion US dollars for the reconstruction of Iraq.

"The opening of this port will have a good effect on trade with Iraq," he said.

He noted that Turkey has this year a program to open a consulate in Mosul, Basra, Kirkuk and Najaf to maintain communication and convergence with the components of the Iraqi people.
