The decision taken by the Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Adel Abdul-Mahdi to refer Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab Al-Saadi, the head of the counter-terrorism agency to the Ministry of Defense, has drawn wide political and popular criticism in Iraq.
Opposition leader of the National Wisdom Movement Ammar al-Hakim expressed surprise at the decision and said in a tweet on social media platforms Twitter that "this is a substitute for reward and appreciation, it sends a false message not only about the mechanisms of managing the security file, but about State administration in general. "
A parliamentary question to Abdul Mahdi
MP Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani said a parliamentary question was sent to Abdul-Mahdi to explain the reasons for Saadi's freeze.
"We were surprised by the decision of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to freeze the fighter Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, who was liberated by many cities," Sudani said in a statement.
He added that "based on the provisions of paragraph VII of Article 16 of the Constitution we will ask a parliamentary question to the Commander-in-Chief of the Prime Minister to explain the reasons for the transfer of the fighter commander of the counter-terrorism forces to the Ministry of Defense, which means a complete freeze of military powers and this is contrary to what this fighter "He refused to wear his military rank unless he completely liberated his country."
"Great abuse"
The head of the Reform and Reconstruction bloc and leader of the Sairoun Alliance, Sabah al-Saadi, promised the government action to transfer some of the military leaders in the counterterrorism service to the command at the Ministry of Defense.
"General Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, field commander in the battles of liberation of Anbar, Fallujah and Mosul, was transferred to the command at the request of the head of the counterterrorism agency, Taleb Shaghati," he said.
Al-Saadi called on "the Prime Minister to reconsider his decision and to speed up its cancellation and to investigate the reasons for the request to transfer him or other members of the agency."
He also called on the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to conduct an urgent investigation into this matter and to host the Saadi team and other leaders and open the file of the anti-terrorism (and flick it) to reveal the truth of what is going on.
Call for reconsideration
He called the leader of the "Iraqi decision" Osama Nujaifi commander of the armed forces to reverse his decision and said that "the reflection of this step on the fighters and the people is a negative message to the high sense of frustration and lack of conviction actions."
Nujaifi called in a statement Abdul Mahdi to "reconsider the referral of the Saadi team to the matter, and return it to his position strengthened and honored," saying that "this is a freeze" for Saadi.
According to the information available, Abdul Mahdi signed a letter transferring al-Saadi from the counter-terrorism to the command of the Ministry of Defense.
The transfer decision was made at the request of the counter-terrorism chief, without giving further details.
Al-Saadi, a graduate of the first military college, was a graduate of the military ranks until he was transferred to the counterterrorism service.He became the chief of staff of the counterterrorism forces (equivalent to the former chief of staff of the Iraqi Republican Guard) and oversaw the graduation of many special operations fighters.
Al-Saadi played a prominent role in IS fighting since the battle of Ramadi, the center of Anbar province in 2014, until the city of Mosul was liberated.
