As the emerging epidemic of Corona virus continues to rise globally, disturbing news continues to spread alongside the disease that has infected more than three quarters of a million people.
On Tuesday, a WHO official said the epidemic was "far from over" in the Asia Pacific region.
The WHO's Western Pacific regional director, Takeshi Kasai, said current measures to curb the spread of the virus "only give some time for countries to prepare for a large-scale transmission of the infection".
"Even under all these measures, the risk of transmission in the region will not go away as long as the epidemic continues," Kasai said in an online media briefing.
He added, "Everyone should prepare for a large-scale transmission of the infection."
The official warned countries that are experiencing a decrease in the number of cases of inactivity, and "otherwise, the virus may return again."
Kasai's warnings come in light of strict preventive measures taken by most of the countries of the world, ranging from the closure of regions and cities to the suspension of studies and the prevention of gatherings.
