An informed source revealed that the Anti-Corruption Committee had arrested a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Commerce on charges including bribery.
The source stated that the committee arrested the Director General of the General Company for Foodstuff Trading in the Ministry of Commerce, Qassem Hammoud Mansour, on several charges, including receiving bribery, indicating that the accused was issued an arrest warrant for suspicions of corruption, receiving bribes and manipulating the ration card items.
Last year, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi formed a committee to investigate corruption cases and assigned Lieutenant-General Ahmed Abu Ragheef to head it, with officers from the interior, security services and the Integrity Commission as a member.
