Wasit is the first governorate to launch a rural settlement project

Wasit / Jabbar Bechai
Wasit Governor Muhammad Jamil Al-Mayahi revealed the launch of the “Rural Settlement” project, which aims to include all villages and rural communities in the governorate with various services, pointing out that there are about one thousand and one hundred villages throughout the governorate, 60 percent of which are covered by services and the rest will be included successively within the plans to develop services that Established by the local government.
Al-Mayahi indicated that all districts and districts of the governorate are witnessing the implementation of many different urban projects, with a total of more than 400 service projects, explaining that the governorate started with the “comprehensive services” project when preparing and implementing new projects.
The Governor of Wasit said in an interview with (Al-Mada), “Based on the fact that Wasit Governorate is agricultural, which annually occupies the first place in grain production, with a total of 800,000 tons last season, with the presence of large projects for livestock, we focused on a project aimed at settling rural people through the inclusion of All villages and rural areas with different services.
He explained that "the aim is to make the village as it is the city enjoys electricity, water projects, paved roads, model schools, health centers, sports stadiums and all the basic services required, with the aim of preventing migration from the village to the city, and this project has begun to reap its fruits."
He added that "the project has another important strategic dimension, the most important of which is achieving integrated economic growth through diversification of plant and animal production and seeking to establish local factories concerned with manufacturing industries, which is a great and basic ambition that we seek to achieve in the governorate."
He pointed out that “there are 1,100 villages and rural communities in all regions of the governorate, of which 60 percent enjoy basic services, and there are 223 villages and rural communities with a small number of homes that need drinking water complexes, and we have begun to develop plans to implement these complexes, while there are 400 villages that need networks of roads to connect them with each other or with city centres.
He said, "Among those numbers, there are 200 residential communities for a group of homes, and these communities do not take the form of a village, and this is why services are delayed. The typical villages are those that contain 300 homes or more. During which priorities were set, and we took into account the delivery of electricity first, then roads, and then water projects, and so on to deliver all the required services.”
He stated that “the main goal that we seek after completing services to the villages and rural areas is to make the countryside productive and not dependent on the city. On the contrary, it is the countryside that finances the cities with various agricultural and animal products, thus creating transformations and great economic growth, and this growth is not achieved in the presence of shortage and scarcity in basic services.
And he indicated that "Wasit Governorate has achieved in recent years self-sufficiency in the products of livestock projects such as fish, table eggs and poultry fields, and that 70 percent of its animal production is exported to other governorates."
He considered, "The stability of the countryside and the occurrence of integrated service transformations in it is an encouraging factor for achieving economic growth to supply the local market with various agricultural and animal products, and thus supply the national economy with these products and dispense with importing them from abroad in hard currency."
Wasit Governorate recently opened a set of rural roads in several areas in the governorate, which were implemented according to the allocations of the Regions Development Project, while the foundation stone was laid for other similar projects, in addition to a number of projects for complexes designated for drinking water and projects to deliver electricity, in addition to schools and health centers that will contribute to providing Basic services for the residents of rural areas of the province.
And the governor of Wasit indicated that "the rural development projects are an integral part of the local government's plan to advance the service situation in all regions of the governorate, starting from the village to the city, and the governorate is currently witnessing the implementation of work in more than 400 diverse service projects distributed according to population density and local need."
He pointed out that "those projects are distributed among three bodies for their financing, namely, the regional development projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation, which are supervised and managed by the local government and constitute the highest percentage and include all service sectors, such as municipalities, water, sewage, electricity, health, education, roads, urban planning and other service aspects. related to people's lives.
He added, "The other type of projects is the investment plan projects of the ministries, which suffer from reluctance in general and with late completion rates for most of these projects, in addition to social benefits projects funded by the oil companies operating in the governorate. those companies.”
And he indicated that "the new plan for the 2022 projects is entitled "Comprehensive Services", and this means that when preparing the statements for any service project in residential areas and neighborhoods, we will adopt the implementation of all services, starting with infrastructure services that are implemented underground, in addition to municipal services, electricity, communications and other required services." .
He explained that "Wasit Governorate has achieved the implementation of 70% of the underground works, which are the implementation of sewage and water networks and some electricity network works, and within two years, 90% of the governorate's areas in general will be covered by those services."
He pointed out that "the governorate suffers from the problem of electrical networks, as most of them are old and worn out and have become incompatible with the expansion taking place in areas, neighborhoods, housing units and other constructions, and this requires financial allocations to rehabilitate and develop these networks to suit the required need."
Wasit Governor Muhammad Jamil Al-Mayahi called on the federal government to do justice to the governorate in the matter of financial allocations that are included in the budget and the need to comply with the deprived and the actual need, stressing that what Wasit governorate receives from annual allocations does not cover 20% of the actual need and that the amount required for the governorate’s budget is assumed Not less than 300 billion dinars.
