Baghdad   -Iran supports the democratic process in Iraq and the decision of the Iraqi nation, Head of Center for Strategic Studies Ali-Akbar Velayati said Tuesday citing the Iraqi parliament approval to elect new prime minister.

Velayati, also an advisor on international affairs to the Supreme Leader, made the remarks speaking to reporters when asked to comment on the Iraqi President Fouad Massoumˈs appointment of Heidar al-Ebadi to form a new government.

ˈWe are happy that the Iraqi democracy is working and Iraqi people have the chance to elect their representatives and the same representatives elect the president, parliament speaker and the prime minister in a democratic process,ˈ Velayati said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati hailed President Hassan Rouhaniˈs handling of domestic and foreign affairs, saying, the government of Rouhani has done its best since taking office a year ago.

He said that considering various problems in the area of foreign policy including the nuclear issue as well as the arbitrary sanctions facing the government, President Rouhani has performed well.

He wished success for the government to be able to tackle the problems.
