From the Lebanese elections on May 15th (Ibrahim Shalhoub/Anadolu Agency)
Nasser Al-Sahli
Parliamentary elections are repeated every four years in Lebanon and Iraq, as is the case in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and others. In the latter countries, parties and groups mobilize for their programs, in the service of citizenship, which punishes a vote.
The sense of patriotism in those countries, despite the different nationalities and religions, is no less than that of the Lebanese and the Iraqi. The nationalist-populist hype, arrogance and doctrinal-sectarian superiority are being honed in the democratic process to which the “brothers” go in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

These Europeans were not born with democratic concepts in their mouths. Rather, various forces compete to win their votes after maturity, in an integration that begins at home and school, and ends with rights and citizenship.
And in invoking the models of others, which millions of Arabs and Muslims seek through emigration, there is nothing but a detraction from the atrocity of the Arab “parliamentary” elites usurping the rights of their citizens.
We can imagine that the Dane and the Swede were born in the streets, squares and buildings after the ruler’s family, similar to what a “Syrian parliamentarian” once demanded under the rule of his master, Bashar al-Assad, the world, considering the Arab world to be “few.”
We can deduce the strangeness and horror of a model of governance based on the deification of the “leader”, who does not turn gray and time does not change his features, by reminding newspapers and screens daily of his beautiful hero, so that people do not discover the change of his “prestige and greatness”.
Some of the “parliamentarians” of our region see that they are better off than the Western “evils of democracy,” invoking the theory of conspiracy against us. For these people, the name “Seara” applies to the Syrian “Sham” like the German “Mercedes”, as they are all cars. Indeed, “Democratic Korea” (North Korea) in the eyes of “brothers” and “comrades” is like the democracy of Berlin and Copenhagen.
The painful mockery of the one on the shoulders of inheriting his “group” is that democracy is a “wedding” if he wins, and a “birthday” and a conspiracy if he loses his majority. We are faced with a vicious circle of an “external conspiracy” to break up our societies, despite the fact that the “leader” himself spreads intimidation from his brothers in the homeland and other “sects,” and calls for applause to exterminate them, to impose more obedience on the farm inherited from generation to generation.
In short, the Lebanese and Iraqi models present a political culture that despises even what is contained in constitutions and covenants. If our "group" does not win, no one else will rule, all in the name of democracy.
In the end, the Arab democrats turn into a global exception, in which it is forbidden to resemble Indonesia and Malaysia, for example, except for the continents to which the downtrodden Arabs migrate, waves upon waves, leaving the “featured leader” living on the ruins of collapse and ruin.
