The economic expert, Muntazer Al-Rubaie, confirmed, on Wednesday, that the electrical connection with Saudi Arabia has 3 drawbacks.

Al-Rubaie said in an interview with Al-Information that “Iraq is going through a severe electricity crisis, despite pumping more than 70 trillion Iraqi dinars over several years in building large production plants, but the lack of fuel contributed to creating a chronic crisis.”
He added, "The electrical connection with Saudi Arabia will be very costly, in addition to that it has a political dimension and is almost exploited to put pressure on Baghdad, with reference to the cost of purchasing electricity sufficient in order to develop gas investment and maintain the operation of all stations."
He pointed out that "there is no point in importing electricity from Saudi Arabia, especially since we have sufficient stations to meet the country's needs, but the problem is in providing fuel and the money that will be spent on the electrical connection with Riyadh is sufficient for the investment of the Mansouriya and crutch gas fields."
The electrical connection project with Saudi Arabia sparked a wave of criticism due to its lack of economic feasibility
