JICA to {Al-Sabah}: Our loans for the reconstruction of Iraq amounted to about 10 billion dollars

The Senior Executive Vice President of the International Agency (JICA), Professor Junji Yamada, revealed that the agency's total loans for the reconstruction of Iraq's infrastructure amounted to about 10 billion US dollars since the Japanese government announced its support for Iraq.
Yamada told "Al-Sabah" during his visit to Iraq, during which he met a number of government officials, that Iraq ranks seventh in the world in JICA's loan portfolio, while no country has received this large number of loans in such a short period of 15 years.
He added that the Japanese government and JICA have supported Iraq so far with about $11.5 billion, including grants, which is more than double the amount that was pledged at the time, in addition to more than 10,000 Iraqis receiving training, mainly in Japan, in order to help develop capabilities. And the implementation of technical cooperation projects in all fields, including agriculture, worker safety, urban planning, port planning and health, in a way that enhances stability and growth, as Iraq occupies an important position in the Middle East.
Professor Yamada explained, "JICA currently plays an important role in the economic and social development in Iraq, beyond the concept of post-war reconstruction, as many important projects have been completed over the past few years after security and political stability were achieved in Iraq."
He pointed out that Iraq needs more renewable energy projects, enhancing solar energy generation and energy stability by combining solar energy with existing energy generation in addition to large-scale development through private investment, suggesting that the signing of the implementation of the Samawah water projects and the fifth phase of the development of Basra refinery will soon be with the Iraqi government.
And regarding his expectations for the implementation of projects in Iraq and the restoration of its health, Yamada said, "The Iraqi-Japanese relations are very strong. I am proud of the success of Japanese companies during the seventies and eighties in implementing large projects, including the construction of the Martyr's Monument and Tahrir Square, in addition to the fact that thousands of Japanese families lived in Iraq due to the involvement of a large number of It is one of the Japanese companies in the implementation of the business, and it left a good impression on the Iraqis.”
The Senior Executive Vice President of the International Agency (JICA) stressed that our companies are interested in the robustness of technology, hard work and a spirit of responsibility, as Iraqis considered it a virtue in their society, and JICA plays an important role in conveying these facts to Japan and enhancing understanding of Iraq, which leads to the development of cooperation between the public and private sectors. .
He pointed out that "Iraq has great potential for development despite facing many challenges such as financial stability, economic diversification, and attracting private investment," adding that "JICA will continue to do its utmost to consolidate cooperation in economic development and the development of all social sectors, and through this cooperation, the implemented projects will be Iraq is a model for the rest of the world, and JICA is now in the process of promoting the program to enhance university cooperation with a program that we called the JICA Chair.
At the end of his speech, he expressed his amazement at the development projects and tourism facilities that were established in Baghdad after he visited them 11 years ago, hinting that the situation in Baghdad has improved greatly compared to that period, and that the Iraqi government is serious about achieving security and prosperity for the Iraqi people after succeeding in achieving security gains. .
