The Kurdistan Regional Government announced today, Monday (October 16, 2023), the collection of taxes and customs fees in Iraqi dinars instead of the dollar, in the context of the government’s approach in Baghdad and commercial facilitations to control the exchange rates of the dollar and prevent dealing with it.
The regional government stated in a brief statement received by “Baghdad Today” that, “Based on a decision issued by the Kurdistan Regional Council of Ministers, customs duties and taxes at border crossings and customs points will be collected in Iraqi dinars instead of dollars.”
The federal government in Iraq is trying to reduce and limit dealing in the dollar, so much so that government contracts have been decided by the Council of Ministers to be in Iraqi dinars with foreign companies.
