Amnesty International: Israel used white phosphorus in southern Lebanon

Amnesty International said that the Israeli army fired artillery shells containing white phosphorus during military operations along the border with Lebanon, between 10 and 16 October.
The organization added that an attack on the town of Al-Dhahirah on October 16 should be investigated as a war crime, because it was an indiscriminate attack that injured at least 9 civilians and caused damage to civilian objects, and is therefore illegal.
It is noteworthy that white phosphorus is a weapon that burns the human body, leaving only the bones behind. Inhaling it for a short period of time irritates the trachea and lungs, while inhaling it for a long period of time causes wounds in the mouth and breaks the jawbone.
In addition to being an incendiary weapon, white phosphorus emits a thick cloud of smoke when it burns, which armies exploit to cover the movements of soldiers.
Cross-border tension in southern Lebanon has escalated significantly since October 7, coinciding with the Israeli aggression on Gaza that followed the Al-Aqsa flood.
The Israeli bombing in Lebanon has killed at least 4 civilians and 48 Hezbollah members so far.
Hezbollah and other armed groups also fired rockets into northern Israel, killing 6 Israeli soldiers and 1 civilian, according to the Israeli military.
Amnesty International said it was investigating the attacks launched by Hezbollah and other armed groups on northern Israel, to determine whether they constitute a violation of international humanitarian law.
