    The Ministry of Transport announced, on Monday, the opening of the oil berth project at the Khor Al-Zubair Specialized Oil Port .
    A statement from the ministry, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, said: “The General Company for Iraqi Ports opened today the oil berth project in the Khor Al-Zubair Specialized Oil Port, the most important Japanese loan project/second phase, in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto. ”
    The statement added, "Based on the directives of the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, regarding the necessity of developing and modernizing the berths of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, the General Company for Ports of Iraq was keen to achieve this achievement in constructing the berth, which is 340 meters long, and is considered one of the most important projects supported by the government of Japan. " .
    Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Farhan Al-Fartusi, said, according to the statement, “The project will have a positive impact on enhancing the company’s revenues and supplying the state treasury .”
    The statement noted that “Japan has real partnerships with Iraq, especially in the field of infrastructure development, through loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), through which we have implemented many projects in the port sector. ”
    In turn, the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, said, according to the statement, “Japan has a historical relationship with Iraq, and from here we have worked to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations with this dear country,” noting, “We are working with our partners in Iraq to support many large projects in the field of Infrastructure, especially here in Iraqi ports, to strengthen and revive the Iraqi economy .”
    For his part, Assistant Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Adel Ali Dasher, confirmed that “the company worked hard to develop the infrastructure through two parallel lines: the first was to establish a modern and advanced port (the Grand Al-Faw Port), which today is witnessing very advanced completion rates,” adding “The second is developing the infrastructure of its currently existing ports through important strategic projects .”
    He pointed out that “the Japanese loan projects in our ports are many, as the ports of Umm Qasr have been developed with more than one project, in addition to the development of the specialized oil port of Khor Al-Zubair, in which we stand today to open the specialized oil berth project with a length of (340) meters, which is one of the largest qualitative berths.” The most important of which is that it was implemented using the latest methods .”
    Dasher continued, “There is another project that has been completed, which is the service pier project. It is not only a service pier, but there are buildings attached to it, such as the Marine Drilling Department building and the Marine Lighting Building, in addition to workshops and others. ”
