    Mustafa Falih:
The Ministry of Industry and Minerals called for the formation of a consumer protection council, and while it explained its procedures regarding protecting the local product, it confirmed that it will contribute to controlling the markets. She said Ministry spokeswoman, Doha Al-Jubouri, told Al-Zawraa that the Industrial Development and Organization Department/Iraqi Products Protection Department continues to implement the provisions of the amended Iraqi Products Protection Law No. 11 of 2010, and instructions to facilitate the implementation of the provisions of the Iraqi Products Protection Law No. 1 of 2011 have been issued. The Council of Ministers issued many decisions to protect the local product based on the provisions of the law, amounting to (102) products. She pointed out that there are other laws in this regard, including the Competition and Antitrust Law No. 14 of 2010, which is in effect, and the Consumer Protection Law No. 1 of 2010, as amended, but it is inactive. She stressed that “the aforementioned laws have a role in controlling markets, protecting the consumer, and achieving fair competition when applied in parallel, to achieve the process of integration among them by entrusting their provisions to the relevant authorities in the law and issuing decisions that achieve economic goals, as they represent all the different interests in society.” Regarding consumer protection, Al-Jubouri explained, “Our Ministry has previously made several overtures for the purpose of activating the Consumer Protection Law, which contributed to its issuance and adopted the process of activating it for the purpose of creating a safe legislative environment and continuously called for the formation of a Consumer Protection Council, and the last overture was made according to our letter No. 47270 on 11/2022. 6 in support of the national economy.”[/size]
