    Baghdad today - Baghdad 
    Member of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Al-Jubouri, revealed today, Friday (November 17, 2023), the date of opening the door for nominations for the position of Speaker of Parliament, the candidates for it, and the nature of the vote. 
    Al-Jubouri said in a tweet on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), followed by “Baghdad Today”, that “based on the Iraqi constitution and the internal regulations of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, the door for nominations for the position of Speaker of Parliament will be opened in the next session.” 
    He added, "There will be more than one candidate and members of Parliament will choose one of them by direct secret voting," noting that "whoever gets 166 votes in the first or second round will be the Speaker of the Council."
    Last Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court issued a decision to terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, following a lawsuit filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi, whose membership the court also terminated.
    Yesterday, Thursday (November 16, 2023), the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Jassem Al-Amiri, clarified the decision to terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, after the latter questioned it.
    Al-Amiri said in a statement to the official news agency, followed by “Baghdad Today”, that “the recent decision of the Federal Court, which includes terminating the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi, and the membership of Representative Laith Mustafa Hamoud Al-Dulaimi, has become binding on all authorities, in accordance with what is stated in Article 94 of the Constitution.” . 
    He added, "This decision is not subject to any means of legal appeal," noting that "the Federal Court is competent to consider such various cases in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution."
