The Deputy Minister of Oil announced to Reuters on Monday that the American energy company ExxonMobil has officially handed over operations in the West Qurna 1 oil field in southern Iraq to PetroChina as a main contractor.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Oil met with executives from ExxonMobil, PetroChina, and Basra Oil companies today in the West Qurna 1 field near Basra on the occasion of Exxon's complete exit and handover of its operations to PetroChina.
Undersecretary of the Minister of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Bassem Mohammed, told Reuters in an interview in the field: “We are meeting today to bid farewell to ExxonMobil, and at the same time we congratulate PetroChina on being the main contractor.”
