Today, Tuesday (January 23, 2024), First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, announced the formation of an investigative committee into allegations of bribery and money in the session to elect the new Speaker of Parliament.
According to a document issued by Al-Mandalawi’s office and obtained by “Baghdad Today”, “it was decided to form an investigative committee headed by Rebwar Hadi Abdel Rahim (Head of the Parliamentary Legal Committee) and the membership of the council members whose names are listed.”
She explained, “The committee is investigating the issue of offering sums of money to members of the Council in order to vote on one of the candidates for the Presidency of the House of Representatives in Session No. (1) of the first legislative term/third legislative year, the fifth parliamentary session, held on 1/13/2024.” .
