    Economy News - Baghdad
In the latest World Bank food security report for 2023, Iran ranked fifth in the world in terms of the highest food inflation rate.
In this list, Venezuela ranked first in the world with an inflation rate of 471%, then Iran ranked fifth with a rate of 78%, and Turkey ranked tenth with a rate of no less than 52%.
This comes at a time when the fixed wages for workers are as follows: the housing allowance is 825,500 tomans, the children’s share is 530,829 tomans per child, and the consumables allowance is 1,79,500 tomans. But these numbers do not cover even a small part of the minimum living expenses per working person in Iran.
By looking at the wages received by the labor force in countries neighboring Iran that have economies relatively similar to its economy, such as Turkey and Iraq, we will realize that the minimum salaries in these countries are equivalent to many times the wages in Iran.
Turkish Labor Minister Vedat Isikhan previously said that the minimum wage in the country this year (2024) will be 17,103 liras ($578). It should be noted that Turkey raised the minimum wage in July of last year (2023), and this number increased by 100% at the beginning of 2024 compared to the beginning of the previous year.
The Iraqi Minister of Labor said: With the implementation of the new law, the minimum wage for retired workers will rise from 400 thousand dinars to 500 thousand dinars. The minimum income of a worker in Iraq is $354 per month, or about 20 million tomans.
In the global ranking of minimum wages, India, Armenia and Azerbaijan ranked higher than Iran.
This wage gap in the countries of the region will soon lead to a mass exodus not only of educated specialists but also of the technical and simple workforce, and the country will be plunged into a human resource shortage crisis.
